Evaluating Personal Development

ISI educational quality inspections (EQI's) were introduced in January 2017 following a pilot stage during the Autumn 2016.  EQI's make only two overall judgements: the achievement, and the personal development of pupils. There has been a move away from judging provision towards evaluating the outcomes of the contribution of pastoral care and leadership for pupils.

The criteria for evaluating personal development have become more sophisticated as inspection has evolved. This module will suggest ways in which schools can make evaluations on their own pupils and includes:

  • What is resilience, self-understanding, aesthetic awareness?
  • How to measure the immeasurable;
  • Linking personal development to achievement;
  • The contribution of reactive, proactive and developmental pastoral care.

This seminar will be of interest to pastoral and senior leaders who want some insight into the way that they might attempt to evaluate the personal development of pupils in their own schools, as well as the approach taken and evidence needed by inspectors in an EQI.
